　米中貿易戦争の打開に向けてまた新たに動きがあったようです。

　ceasefire /sísfáɪɚ/ を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版、大修館書店）には「停戦、休戦、戦闘中止、撃ち方止めの号令」とありました。LDOCEには“an agreement to stop fighting for a period of time, especially so that a more permanent agreement can be made”と定義されています。
　ceaseが「やめる」という意味でfireには「発砲」といった意味があるのでceasefireがこのような意味になったのだと思います。
　似たような意味の単語でtruceというものもあるようです。こちらはLDOCEに“an agreement between enemies to stop fighting or arguing for a short time, or the period for which this is arranged”とあったので、またいつか再開するというニュアンスが強いように感じられました。(rain)
