　山手線にロボットが試験導入されているようです。

Artificial intelligence, it turns out, still requires human input.

East Japan Railway Co. (JR East), operator of the Yamanote loop line around central Tokyo, has installed robots and other AI technology at six stations in a trial run for a system designed to provide information and guidance to passengers needing directions.

Clearly, some fine-tuning is required, as a robot-to-human exchange at the Ikebukuro Station concourse showed Dec. 7.

　concourse /kάnkɔɚs/ を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版、大修館書店）には「（公園などの）散歩道、車道、中央広場、（駅・空港などの）中央ホール」や「（人・物の）集合、群衆、（川、事件などの）合流（点）」とありました。LDOCEでは“a large hall or open place in a building such as an airport or train station”や“a large crowd that has gathered together”と定義されています。「群衆」という意味ではcrowdなどよりも固い表現だそうです。
　語源はラテン語で「走る、流れる」という意味のcurrereです。con-はもちろん「ともに」といった意味なので「一緒に走る」と言った意味から転じてできたそうです。
これで知ったのですが、日本語でもコンコースといって使われているのですね。駅構内の看板などに書いてあるのでしょうか、注意して見てみようと思います。(rain)
