Uniqlo to halt use of mohair in products

Fast Retailing Co. announced on its website that it would stop using mohair in the products of the company’s seven affiliated brands, including Uniqlo and Theory, by 2020.

Mohair is a luxury fabric made from the hair of the Angora goat. Animal protection groups have lobbied retailers to stop using the material as it is collected using inhumane practices.

　inhumane /ìnhjuːméɪn/ を取り上げます。humanという言葉が隠れており、否定のinがあることから、人に関連するマイナスの意味であることが予想できます。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で引くと「不人情な、薄情な；残酷な」とありました。

　LDOCEには “extremely cruel and causing unacceptable suffering” と定義されています。extremelyやunacceptableという語から、普通の程度を越えている様子が伝わってきます。
