気になった表現は、sit-inです。前後の文から、辺野古への移設に反対している方々による「デモ活動」を表しているのではないかと考えました。
まず『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、sit-inで「座り込み抗議」とありました。stage [hold] a sit-in「座り込みを行う」といった形で使うそうです。また、LDOCEでは“a type of protest in which people refuse to leave the place where they work or study until their demands are agreed to”と定義されていました。
ちなみに、sitを動詞として使用してsit inとした場合にも「(抗議の)座り込みに参加する」という意味で使うことができます(『ウィズダム英和辞典』)。(Blue Sky)
