wrapped around the axle 復習

　例によってSpider Eaters を読んでいた時に気になった表現を調べていたところ、また新しい表現に出会いました。本日はそちらを紹介します。
　本日紹介する表現は、”wrapped around the axle”です。元々は、”spin around the axle”という表現の意味調べに着手しようとしていました。同本において、同表現は、”working through the night into the day and then through the say into the night”という文脈とともに使われています。”wrapped around the axle” は、同じ ”around the axle” という句を持ち合わせていることから、同じニュアンスの表現であると思われます。
　“wrapped around” と”the axle”この２つの意味は自明でしょう。しかし、参考程度に見たUrban Dictionaryによると、この２つが合わさると、”to be caught up in a situation or with a person to the extent that whatever happens in the situation or to the person also affects you, often disastrously. “という意味合いで使われるとのことです。(WREN@Nebraska)
