You’re the boss. 復習

研究室でUG先生とP先生の会話の中で、ある表現に出会いました。

それが “You’re the boss.” です。訳すと「あなたはボスだ」となりますが、そのままの意味ではありません。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』第４版（大修館）には「はい、ご命令どおりに；決定権は君にある, （選ぶ[決める]とき）君が決めてよ」とありました。Urban Dictionaryを参考にしてところ “in a conversation between a superior and an inferior, when the inferior suggests something from the opinion of the superior, and the response the superior gives mark the agreement.” と定義されています。

他にも同じような意味合いで “It’s up to you.” や “It depends on you.” といった表現があります。(amphibian)
