気になったのはturn on one's earという表現です。ベーブ・ルース以来の二刀流での活躍について触れられている段落なので、ポジティブな意味で使われていることは確かだと思います。
英辞郎 on the WEBを確認したところ、turn ~ on one’s earで「〜を覆す、〜を一新する」とありました。また、インターネットのThe Free Dictionaryではturn (something) on its earで“To innovate or alter something, such as a field or activity, in an unexpected or unprecedented way.”と定義されています。よって、記事では大谷選手の二刀流での活躍が野球界の常識を覆すものであったということを表現しているのだと思います。
