　dip intoを取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版、大修館書店）には「〈（貯えた）金〉に手をつける」や「〈本など〉を拾い読みする」や「（何かを取るために）…に手を突っ込む」とありました。LDOCEではto read short parts of a book, magazine etc, but not the whole thingやto use some of an amount of money that you haveやo put your hand into a bag or box in order to take out one of the things insideと定義されています。
　ちなみに今回の意味とは関係ありませんが、ネットでdipを使ったある表現を拾ったので紹介します。それはlucky dipです。小さなプレゼントがたくさん入っている袋のことで、パーティーなどではlucky dipの中から一つをつかみ取るそうです。dip intoには「（何かを取るために）…に手を突っ込む」という意味があるので関連して覚えておきたいです。(rain)
