Rubella infections starting to spread across Japan
Health officials in Japan say nearly 2,000 people have contracted rubella, or German measles, this year.
The infections are spreading from the Tokyo metropolitan area to other parts of the country.

今回取り上げるのは、rubella /ruːbélə/ です。病名を指していることは分りましたが、何の病気か分からなかったため調べてみました。
まずLDOCEで引いてみると、“an infectious disease that causes red spots on your body, and can damage an unborn child” とあり、『ウィズダム英和辞典』には、「風疹」と載っていました。
続いて、『オックスフォード新英英辞典』で語源を調べると、”late 19th cent. : modern Latin, neuter plural of Latin rubellus ‘reddish’.” と定義してありました。
ちなみに「風疹」は、本文にもあるように、German measlesと言い換えることもできます。（Otoyo）
