今回はtetchy /tétʃi/ を紹介します。文脈から「いらいらして」と推測しました。

『ジーニアス英和辞典』第４版（大修館）にはtesty /tésti/ と同じ意味で「[…に対して]短気な, 怒りっぽい[over]」とありました。LDOCEは “like to get angry or upset easily” と定義しており、例は “Jane’s a bit tetchy this morning.” と挙げられていました。

続いて語源を調べたところ、Oxford Living Dictionariesには “Late 16th century: probably from a variant of Scots tache ‘blotch, fault’, from Old French teche.” とあり、スコットランド語で「しみ, よごれ」を表すtacheから由来しています。
