　avid /ˈævɪd/ を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版、大修館書店）には「<人が>熱心な」や「〔物・名声などを〕渇望している」とありました。LDOCEにはdoing something as much as possibleと定義されています。

　語源はラテン語で「熱心な」という意味のavidusだそうです。
