Plans for dream weddings in Hawaii became nightmares for 260 couples after major travel agency H.I.S. Co. suddenly canceled their trips because the new venue due to host their weddings is still under construction.

Disgruntled customers vented their feelings on the H.I.S. Instagram account, with one writing, “I only have sadness and anger.”

The drama attracted media attention, prompting H.I.S. to issue a statement on Sept. 26. The agency apologized and said it would return money paid by the couples, offer them alternative tours and pay compensation to some customers depending on their scheduled wedding dates.

　vent /vént/ を取り上げます。通気孔の意味でよく知られる単語ですが、ここでは動詞として用いられています。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で調べると「（格式）（感情など）を発散させる、ぶちまける」とありました。

　LDOCEには “to express feelings of anger, hatred etc, especially by doing something violent or harmful” と定義されています。攻撃的なやり方で感情を表に出す様子が伝わってきます。

　他にも “give vent to …” の形で「（感情など）にはけ口を与える、…をぶちまける」という意味があります。ventだけで名詞として「感情のはけ口」という意味で使われることが確認できました。（『ライトハウス英和辞典』）（aqua）
