今回はeye-wateringを紹介します。「涙が出るような」という意味でしょうか。
手持ちの紙辞書に記載がなかったので『weblio 英和辞典・和英辞典』で調べました。すると「涙が出る；＜金額や数量が＞涙が出るほど高い, 多い」とありました。
OEDには “(especially of a figure or amount)extremely high and large” と定義されていました。
利用者の中には６万円以上の駐車料を支払った人もいれば、無料で駐車できた人たちもいるそうです。(amphibian)
