A HISELT conference held on a satellite campus of Senshu
Yesterday, I attended a HISELT conference which was held on a satellite campus of Senshu University. Let me tell you about my impressions about it.
The conference had two presentations. In the first part, Prof. Shimo of Kinki University made a presentation about a history of second languages teaching from 1880 to 1910. I was impressed with her logical style of dealing with questions in a questions and answers session. I was not able to understand the technical terms in the presentation, but learned that there were always some important reasons whenever we decided to do something. They were also related to the background of the era.
In the second part, Prof. Kawashima of Nihon University gave a presentation about five English sentence patterns. At the beginning of his presentation, we were asked if we knew the reason why we learned these five patterns. I was not able to answer it because I did not even bother to think about it. I think I have to pay more attention to a connection between what we learn something and why we learn it.(aqua)
