optimize 復習
今回は、受講している授業で観たTEDのビデオの中から単語を拾っていきます。テーマはAIについてです。

We need to think of intelligence as an optimization process, a process that steers the future into a particular set of configurations. A superintelligence is a really strong optimization process. It's extremely good at using available means to achieve a state in which its goal is realized. This means that there is no necessary connection between being highly intelligent in this sense, and having an objective that we humans would find worthwhile or meaningful.

optimize /ˈɒptəmaɪz/ を取り上げます。
はじめて聞いた時は意味が取れず、とても気になりました。以下で確認していきたいと思います。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』(第五版、大修館書店)では「(状況・機会など)を最大限に活用する、(コンピューターシステムなど)を最適化する」とありました。また、LDOCEでは “to improve the way that something is done or used so that it is as effective as possible” “to make the best possible use of something or to do something in the best possible way” と記載されていました。
OEDで語源を見てみると “Early 19th century: from Latin optimus ‘best’ + -ize” となっていました。
AIは常に進化を遂げ、我々の日常生活を便利に、そして豊かにしてくれています。しかしその一方で、将来的には自我を持ち始め、暴走する危険性もあると考えられています。そうならないためにもAIと人間、この二者間で上手にバランスを保つ策を練っていくのが一つの手ではないかと思いました。(seventh-dan)
