太陽の塔の内部公開が始まりました。

People tour the inside of the Tower of the Sun (right) in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, on Monday, the first day that members of the public could enter its interior. Monday morning saw about 300 people visit the structure, which was recently restored to its original condition from the Expo ’70 world’s fair in Osaka. Now located in the Expo ’70 Commemorative Park, the tower is one of artist Taro Okamoto’s most iconic creations. Its interior was closed to the public after the expo due to concerns over its ability to withstand earthquakes. The Osaka prefectural government began work to reinforce the tower in autumn 2016.

気になった単語はcommemorative /kəmĕm′ərətĭv/ です。本文に「太陽の塔のある場所は」とあるので太陽の塔のある記念公園のあたる単語が訳として考えられると思いました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版,大修館書店）には「記念の、記念となる,〔…を〕記念する」や「記念品;記念貨幣とありました。

memorialとの違いが気になったのですが、調べてみたところmemorialは亡くなった方に対して使う単語だということが分かりました。まあanniversaryは過去の特別な出来事に対して使うものだそうです。(rain)
