外交記事の一面を読んでいる中で、お気に入りのラップの歌詞に出てきた単語と同じものを見つけて驚いたので紹介したいと思います。
中国側は、アメリカ合衆国と朝鮮民主主義人民共和国間による早急の会談を求めています。

今回取り上げる単語はon the fringe of です。初め、単語の意味が分からず全く見当もつかない状況でしたが、文脈判断で「生放送の、間近の、〜に関しての」という訳出が適しているのではないかと考えました。
『スーパーアンカー英和辞典』（第五版、学研プラス）では、「周辺の、片隅の」とあり、
場所や位置関係を表す語であることがわかり、fringeのみで引いたところ、「１（テーブル掛けやショールなどの）ふさ飾り、２（一般に）へり、縁、周辺部、３（過激な）非主流派グループ、４（短く切り下げた前髪）」との意義があります。記事中での使われ方は、「全国人民代表大会が執り行われている片隅で記者会見〜」となるのではないでしょうか。過去のブログにも数度紹介されているので、参考に見てください。
ちなみに自分のお気に入りのラップ曲「rockstar」中での使われ方は “ice on the frimge, it’s so damn frosty” となっていて、やはり氷の縁または周辺という意味でした。（broccoli）
