lie-in 復習

今朝の裏ゼミで触れた内容を取り上げていきたいと思います。　
　アメリカのドナルド・トランプ大統領は、フロリダ州の高校で発生した襲撃事件で被害に遭った若者からの抗議運動を受け、精神疾患の問題への取り組みを誓った一方で、銃規制についての直接的な言及を避けました。

　気になった表現はlie-inです。記事の写真の中に、被害者の若者がデモを行っている様子や地面に寝そべっている姿が載っていたので、独特な追悼や哀悼の仕方の１つを示した意味が含まれているのではないかと予測しました。まず、自動詞と他動詞の形でlie inを調べたところ、『スーパー・アンカー』（第五版、学研プラス）では、「（準他）<困難・希望・原因などが>…にある、存する」「（自）<古風＞女性がお産の床につく、いつもより遅くまで寝ている」とありました。同様に、名詞lie-inの意味は「（抗議などのための寝転んでする）集団座り込み、朝寝」と記されています。

また、他に同じ意味を持つ表現はあるのかと気になり調べたところ、die-in（『Oxford Dictionaries』）ではa demonstration in which people lie down as if deadと定義されていました。さらに２つの表現の差異として、前者は「犠牲者が出た要因が事件であるとき」で後者は「核兵器や戦争によって」と、場面や状況によって使い分けられている場合が多いことが分かりました。今回の記事では前者のlie-inが適しています。

　高校での銃乱射事件の中では史上最悪規模となってしまった今回の一件。犠牲者を悼む若者の姿に心が痛みます。銃規制に着手しないトランプ政権の無策さに今もなおアメリカ国内から怒りの声が上がっていますが、今後果たして銃の所持に関しての大幅な改革はあるのでしょうか。トランプ大統領の意向に注目したいです。（broccoli）
