Nonaka dies in Kyoto hospital at age 92

TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Hiromu Nonaka, who served in such posts as chief cabinet secretary and secretary-general of the Liberal Democratic Party, died on Friday afternoon at a hospital in the city of Kyoto. He was 92.

Nonaka, a former member of the House of Representatives, collapsed during a meeting in Kyoto last November and was rushed to hospital.

Born in Kyoto Prefecture, Nonaka worked for the now-defunct Japanese National Railways before becoming a Sonobe municipal assembly member and then mayor of the town.
