今回取り上げるのは、bigot /bígət/です。まず『ジーニアス英和辞典』第5版(大修館書店)をみてみると「《宗教・政治・人種に関して》頑迷な人,偏屈な人」-ed「頑迷な」とと記載がありました。"女性やLGBTなどに偏見を持った人"となります。
語源は-otで主にフランス語系の名詞語尾だそうです。(Weblio英和和英辞書)
関係があるかわかりませんが、昔みた映画でニューヨークに移り住んだフランス人の女性が"argot"言っており耳についたので、意味を調べたことを思い出しました。ちなみに「隠語」という意味です。(Momo)
