気になった語句は“hordes of”です。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館）を参照すると、「〔騒々しい人など〕の群れ、（動物などの）大群」と載っていました。本文では「海外からの観光客の群衆」となりますね。
上記の語句は「人の群れ」を表していましたが、他の種類の群れを表す言葉も多く存在します。例えば“a herd of”は牛、馬、象など家畜や体が大きめな動物に使い、“flock”は羊、鳥、ヤギなど小さめの家畜や渡り鳥などに使われ、“a school of”はクジラやイルカ、メダカなど魚や海に住む哺乳類に使われます。(Large Lake)
