　日本武道館で書初め大会が行われ、予選を通過した約3000人が参加をしました。

Same strokes for different folks

People participate in a New Year calligraphy event at the Nippon Budokan hall in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, on Friday. The about 3,000 people, including children and the elderly, picked up their brushes to write this year’s phrases — including omoiyari (consideration) and kiryoku no jujitsu (full of energy).

　見出しのSame strokes for different folksを取りあげます。strokeで『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）を引いて確認してみると、Different strokes and different folks.で「ひとそれぞれ、十人十色」とありました。strokeには「筆のはらい、一書」などの動作を表し、今回は参加者が一斉に筆をとった事とかけられていることがわかります。
　入選作品は2月2５日に武道館の展覧会に展示されるそうです。(flying bird)
