chrysalis 復習

chrysalis/krísəlɪs/を取り上げます。

　前回chrysanthemumを調べた際、LDOCEでこの語が語源となっていました。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』第5版(大修館)で調べてみると「《虫》さなぎ、さなぎの殻」と記載されています。
　しかし、英和辞典 Webilo辞書ではさらに「準備時代、過渡期」、LDOCEでも同様に
"a moth or butterfly at the stage of development when it has a hard outer shell and is changing into its adult form"のように、硬いさなぎの殻を破ることが、人生の困難な時代を越えようとする、過渡期いう意味として用いられているようです。(Momo)
