　ノーベル文学賞を受賞したカズオイシグロさんから出身地の長崎県・長崎市に手紙が届きました。

Ishiguro’s letters to Nagasaki reveal soft spot for birthplace

NAGASAKI--Nobel Literature Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro emphasized how his birthplace of Nagasaki holds a special place in his heart and had helped propel his career in letters he wrote to the city's mayor and prefectural governor.
"My memories of my childhood in Nagasaki have formed the foundations of my career as a writer, and Nagasaki will always be a part of me," Ishiguro, who moved to Britain with his family at the age of 5, wrote in a letter to Nagasaki Governor Hodo Nakamura.

　気になった表現はsoft spotです。過去のブログの記事ではLDOCEにhave a soft spot for somebodyで“to continue to like someone even when they do not behave well”とあるように「〜に弱い、大好きである」として取り上げられていますが、今回は「特別な思い」を表していると思われます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）でも「（…に対する）好感、特別な愛情」とsoft spotの項目に記載されていました。
　カズオイシグロさんの許可を取ることができれば、手紙を一般公開する予定だそうです。(flying bird)
