SAPPORO--Prosecutors on Dec. 28 indicted the captain of a stranded North Korean wooden boat on a charge of theft over the ransacking of a hut and other facilities on an inhabited island off Hokkaido.
The Hakodate District Public Prosecutors Office in Hakodate, Hokkaido, did not indict the other nine crew members of the boat, which had washed ashore on Matsumaekojima island off Matsumae, southwestern Hokkaido.

“wash”を取り上げます。ごく一般的な単語なので、「洗う」という意味を知っている方も多いと思います。『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、この単語の第2義には「〈海・川・漂流物などが〉【岸などに】洗い流される、押し流される；静かに漂う；≪…を≫洗う(away)≪against≫」とありました。この意味で使われる場合後ろには副詞を伴うことが多く、副詞は到達点や方向を表すものがきます。確認のために
