Giant panda cub Xiang Xiang was unveiled to the media on Dec. 18 one day ahead of her long-awaited public debut.

tip the scaleを取りあげます。体重に関する語であることが予測できます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）scaleの「はかり」の項目を確認すると、天秤に物を乗せて量るイラストと一緒にtip the scaleが記載されていました。「重さ（体重）がある」とあり、Merriam-Websterでは“to register weight”と定義されいます。また、同上英和辞書には“tip (swing) the balance”で「（…に有利になるように/不利になるように）局面をあたえる、影響を与える」という表現もあったので一緒に覚えておきたいです。(flying bird)
