もともとmourn「〈人が〉〔死・不幸などを〕悲しむ、嘆く(be sorry for)〔over,for〕」「〈人が〉〔死者を〕悼む、〔人の〕喪に服する」から派生しています。結婚式で新郎新婦の両親が着用する喪服がモーニングと呼ばれていたことを思いだしました。mourning（morningと同音）で「悲しみ、悲嘆」「哀悼、喪;喪服」を意味します。(Kiwi girl)
