Winter bonuses eke out fifth year of growth in Japan
Winter bonuses at Japanese companies are rising for a fifth straight year, but the overall increase of under 1% may not help much to advance Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's goal of invigorating consumer spending.
The weighted average bonus for all industries gained 0.89% from a year earlier to 808,646 yen ($7,133), according to a Nikkei Inc. survey based on a data as of Dec. 1. While the payout is the highest in nine years, growth failed to crack 1% for a second year in a row.
eke outに注目しました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）を引いたところ、 「〈不足分〉を（努力をして）［…で］補う［with, by］」、「〈生計〉をなんとか立てる，…を苦労して手に入れる」、「〈金・食料など〉を節約してやりくりする」、「…を小分けして与える」と載っておりました。Oxford Dictionary of English (2th) では、 “to make a small supply of sth as food or money last longer by using only small amounts of it”と定義されております。
ちなみにekeのみで「…を増やす」などの意味をもちますが、すこし古い英語のようです。(Gomez)
