Amazon launches in Australia
The U.S. firm was likely to absorb losses initially to boost its market share, IBISWorld senior analyst Kim Do said, pressuring the profitability and margins of its competitors.
Several top Australian retailers have recently succumbed to pressure from foreign giants such as Japan's Uniqlo and Sephora of France, while others have cut back on bricks-and-mortar stores.
But other analysts said it was not all bad news for local retailers, with Amazon expected to face similar challenges such as low access to broadband and the large size of the island continent.

brick-and-mortarに注目しました。先週の月曜日の裏ゼミで読んだ記事にも載っていたので、復習してみました。『リーダーズ英和辞典』を引いたところ、「（販売会社などが）実店舗のある，現場でサービスを提供する」と載っております。Oxford Dictionary of English (2th) には、 bricks and mortarで“used to denote a business that operates conventionally rather than (or as well as) over the Internet”と定義されております。
ちなみに関連語はclick-and-mortarで、上記英和辞典によると、「インターネット上のオンライン店舗と，従来からある実際の店舗との販売の融合もしくは並行運営をいう」とのことです。 (Gomez)
