Nitty-gritty lingo prepared for tourists in case of disaster

Japanese facilities are being told to dumb down their vernacular when advising foreigners during a disaster.
Simple words and phrases to replace timeworn ones will be introduced by the government.
And if disaster strikes, staffers are expected to use the recommendations to advise and direct foreigners at stations, hotels, sports fields and elsewhere.

“nitty-gritty lingo”を取りあげます。まず、“nitty-gritty”をOxford living dictionaryで見てみると“The most important aspects or practical details of a subject or situation.”とあり、“lingo”は“A foreign language or local dialect”とそれぞれ定義されていました。“lingo”はラテン語で「舌」が語源となっているそうです。直訳すると「核心的な言語」となりますが、必要最低限の言葉で分かりやすく伝える言い方から「(外国人向けの)やさしい日本語」に相当するようです。
 簡単な言葉の目安は来日一年目の留学生が理解できる程度で、試行訓練の後に来年度からホテルや駅などの施設で採用されます。(flying bird)
