　The World Health Organization has revoked the appointment of Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe as a goodwill ambassador following a widespread outcry.
　"I have listened carefully to all who have expressed their concerns," WHO head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a statement.
　He had previously praised Zimbabwe for its commitment to public health.
　But critics pointed out that Zimbabwe's healthcare system had collapsed in recent years.
　During the first 20 years of his 37-year rule, Mr Mugabe widely expanded health care, but the system has badly been affected by the collapse of the Zimbabwean economy since 2000.
　Staff often go without pay, medicines are in short supply, and Mr Mugabe, who has outlived the average life expectancy in his country by three decades, travels abroad for medical treatment.(Skip the rest)

　次に、語源を確認します。同書によると、「初14c; cry out (強く抗議する)から」とあります。この語のように、使い勝手を考慮して、句動詞が名詞化しているものがあるようです。例えば、input (put in)や intake (take in)などがあります。
　つい先日、ムガビ大統領がWHOの親善大使に任命されたという記事をブログで取り上げましたが、今回の記事を見てわかるように、周りからの抗議からこの件は取りやめになってしまいました。その要因の一つとして、ジンバブエの医療環境があり、これは年々悪くなっています。そんな中、ムガビ大統領自身が病院にかかるときは海外に出かけて治療を受けていると言われています。日本でも衆議院選挙が終わり、安倍首相が続投を決めましたが、国のリーダーたる立場の者は国民のことを第一に考えなくてはならないと思います。自分の国のことは自分たちで決めていくことが重要なので、行動することです。その点を忘れてはいけません。(OkaUchi)
