“cut short”を取り上げます。“shortcut”という言葉から「短くする」に近い表現かと思いました。Merriam-Websterで確認すると“ to end (something) earlier than expected”と定義されており、「突然終わる」であることがわかりました。文中のcut short “Camelot”で「（暗殺によって）キャメロット時代が終わった」となります。“Camelot”は書いてあるようにケネディが大統領を務めた1961年〜1963年を指す比喩表現ですが、『アーサー王物語』に出てくる理想郷の名前がおおもとになっています。(flying bird)
