National holiday shake-up eyed to ease Olympics traffic in Tokyo
Lawmakers are considering special measures to make national holidays of the dates either side of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics’ opening and closing ceremonies to help ensure smooth running of the events.
The dates, July 23 and Aug. 10, 2020, are likely to be designated as national holidays for the Olympic year only, in addition to the Opening Ceremony on July 24, which is already earmarked as a national holiday.
