　麻や貝殻を使用したこれまでにないファッションアイテムが11人のフィリピンデザイナーによって東京丸の内で紹介されました。

Brightly colored bags and exotic accessories designed by 11 Filipino creators using natural materials such as Manila hemp and seashells are catching the eyes of those attending the “Exclusively by Hand” exhibition at Good Design Marunouchi in the Shin Kokusai Building in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo.
This is the second year of “Exclusively by Hand,” organized mainly by the Trade and Investment Section of the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo and supported by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion to feature handmade items designed by Filipino creators.

　hemp /hémp/を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』によると、「｟植｠アサ、タイマ、麻繊維、大麻｟麻薬｠」とありました。LDOCEでは、”a type of plant that is used to make rope and sometimes to produce the drug cannabis”と定義されておりました。
　大麻を表す単語は他にも同上cannabis /kˈænəbɪs/や、よく知られているmarijuana /mɛ̀rəwɑ́nə/があります。ブログではhemp steadというワードがこれまでに多く記載されていたのでインターネットで調べてみたとこと、ロング・アイランド、アーカンソー州、テキサス州にヘンプスッテドという地名があることがわかり、他にもノースカロライナ州のヘンプヒル、ペンシルバニア州のヘンプフィールドがあることが明らかになりました。どちらも嘗てカンナビスやヘンプの栽培をしていたことが地名の由来となっているとのことです。（Kiwi girl）
