　岡山県美咲町の両山寺で、五穀豊穣や天下太平を祈る祭、二上山護法祭（ふたがみさんごほうさい）が行われました。

Disrupting ritual at Okayama festival could lead to death

After the stroke of midnight, shrieking people rush around in the dark, desperate to avoid the deadly clutches of a bird-man possessed by a deity.

They had made the foolish mistake of disrupting a ritual at Ryosanji temple here. And if the angry bird-man, a guardian of sorts known as Gohozane, catches them, they will die within three years, according to the legend.

The ritual takes place at the annual Futagamisan Gohosai (Goho festival of Mount Futagami) held from dusk to dawn in mid-August.

　“play tag” を取り上げます。tagは名札や値札などのように「札」のイメージでしたが、ここではそれらとは異なった意味で用いられています。『ライトハウス英和辞典』で調べると、「1鬼ごっこ 2（野球）タッチアウト」とありました。 “play tag” で「鬼ごっこをする」という意味になります。LDOCEには “a children’s game in which one player chases and tries to touch the others” と定義されています。
　以前、鬼ごっこの鬼のことを先生から “it” ということを学びましたが、tagでも鬼を表すことができるとわかりました。このお祭りでは、神が乗り移ったとされる男性「ゴーサマ」が半紙で作られた帽子をかぶり、境内を走り回るそうです。ゴーサマの邪魔をして捕まると、三年以内に死ぬという言い伝えがあるとのことです。（aqua）
