“mummify”を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、「…をミイラ化する；…を干からびさせる」とありました。また、LDOCEでは“to preserve a dead body by putting special oils on it and wrapping it with cloth”と定義されています。LDOCEの定義では死体の保存方法としてのミイラ化を意味する単語だと定義されていますが、今回の記事の中ではネズミが干からびていることを表現しており、ただ単に干からびたものを表現する場合にも用いられることがあるようです。(Blue Sky)
