人気アニメシリーズ「機動戦士ガンダム」のプラモデル「ガンプラ」に特化した国内初の総合施設がお台場にオープンしました。オープン初日には開店前から約３００人が列を作りました。

Gundam mania swooped into the capital on Aug. 19 with a long line forming two hours before the opening of Gundam Base Tokyo, the first model specialty shop in Japan dedicated to the "Mobile Suit Gundam" anime series.

“swoop into”を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、“swoop ”は「〈タカ・戦闘機・軍隊などが〉飛びかかる、襲いかかる、急襲する(down, in)」とありました。また、LDOCEでは“if a bird or aircraft swoops, it moves suddenly down through the air, especially in order to attack something”と定義されています。今回の記事ではファンがショップに飛びついてることを“swoop into”で表現しています。(Blue Sky)
