Tally of Mt. Fuji climbers under way
The first official tally of climbers on Mt. Fuji, a UNESCO World Heritage site, began near the mountain’s peak around sunrise on Saturday.
The Yamanashi and Shizuoka prefectural governments, responsible for managing Mt. Fuji, have launched the survey in response to a UNESCO request that they reduce overcrowding on the mountain.

“tally”/tˈæli/を取り上げます。『ウィズダム英和辞典』を引いたところ、「計算、得点；(金額・得点などの)記録、計算書、帳簿、得点表」とありました。また、LDOCEでは“a record of how much you have spent, won etc by a particular point in time”と定義されています。この単語の語源はラテン語の“tlea”「棒，切り枝」にあります(goo辞書)。ちなみに、日本でものを数える際に度々用いられる「正」は“tally”で表現することができます。
