　“insecure”を取り上げたいと思います。“secure”は「安定した、確実な」や「安全な」といった意味を持つ形容詞です。この単語に接頭辞の“in-”を付けた“insecure”には「«容姿・能力・状況などに»自信がない、不安定である«about»」という意味になります(『ウィズダム英和辞典』)。LDOCEでは“not feeling at all confident about yourself, your abilities, or your relationships with people”と定義されていました。心が不安定であるというところから自信がない、という意味になるのだと思います。今回の記事では容姿に自信がないという意味で用いられています。ちなみに、『ウィズダム英和辞典』では「自分の外見に自信がある」の訳として“I’m secure about the way I look.”が示されていました。(Blue Sky)
