A paraplegic man was forced to crawl up a boarding ramp for a flight in southern Japan after airport staff refused to let his companions carry him in a wheelchair.

Amami Airport in Kagoshima Prefecture lacked equipment to help disabled people enter and exit aircraft, and officials there would not let the customer be carried aboard, citing regulations of Vanilla Air Inc., a low-cost carrier under ANA Holdings Inc.
