3.7 mil. bottles of Volvic mineral water recalled in Japan over possible plastic fragments

Kirin Beverage Co. on May 2 announced a recall of 3.7 million bottles of Volvic mineral water over the possibility that the bottles could contain plastic fragments.
Company officials said the recall applies to 500-milliliter products with a best before date of October 2019. The recalled bottles do not include products sold in Kyushu and Okinawa.
It is believed that part of a filling machine broke at a factory in France and plastic fragments got inside bottles.

　“a best day before date”について調べました。文脈から「賞味期限」であることがわかります。

　『ジーニアス英和辞典』（大修館書店、第五版）によると、この言い方はイギリス英語で、他にも“best-before date”, “best before O”, “expiry date”, “sell by date”とも表記するそうです。反対にアメリカでは“expiration date”, “pull date”となります。

　また、上記の表現は店頭販売期限で、売る側からの表現となるので、買い手側からの場合は“using by date”と表現することを先生に教えていただきました。

　余談ですが今回行われた「自主回収」と「リコール」の違いは、義務であるか否かだそうです。(flying bird)
