Friendlier tone used in Brazil to promote ‘correct image of Japan’

The Japanese government opened a facility here to spread the “correct image of Japan,” but it softened the tone by avoiding, at least temporarily, issues that have triggered diplomatic disputes.

Brazilian media covered the opening ceremony for the first “Japan House” on April 30, and locals viewed the site as a friendly place to enjoy Japanese culture and food.

The Abe administration’s original concept was to build Japan Houses overseas to serve as strongholds that disseminate information underscoring Japan’s positions in territorial disputes and historical recognition issues.

The government plans to open Japan Houses in London and Los Angeles this year.

However, the government decided to initially focus on Japanese culture, not international brouhahas, at the Japan House in Sao Paulo on the recommendation of an advisory council.

Oxford Dictionary of English(Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)によると、 “a noisy and overexcited critical response, display of interest, or trail of publicity”と定義されております。
(Gomez)
