今回はcrack down on という表現を調べてみました。Oxford Dictionary of English (Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)によると、 "to try harder to pretend an illegal activity and deal more severely with those who are caught doing it "と定義されておりました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）には、「〈人・事〉を厳しく取り締まる，に断固たる処置をとる」と載っておりました。
薬物以外にも、交通違反(traffic violations)の取り締まりや外国人の不法滞在（illegal immigrants）の取り締まりなどにも使えます。(Gomez)
