Media allowed nearer Kyushu volcano to inspect damage

Reporters were allowed to inch closer to the Nakadake peak of Mount Aso on Feb. 8 after the alert level was lowered to 1 the day before.

The media were allowed within a kilometer of the No. 1 crater of the peak, which erupted in October 2016.

However, for the time being, the public is still not allowed to approach within 1 km.

The eruption, the most violent in 36 years, sent a towering plume of smoke and ash into the sky.

It is the first time the alert level has been lowered to 1 in two and a half years due to a decline in volcanic tremors.

LDOCEには “a small earthquake in which the ground shakes slightly” や “a slight shaking movement in your body that you cannot control, especially because you are ill, weak, or upset” と定義されており、身震いの場合は病気や動揺などが原因で自分ではコントロールできないものを指すようです。 (aqua)
