　今回取り上げる表現は，“crease”です。これは，「布などのしわ」や「折り目」などの意味で知られています。ほかには，名詞「（ホッケーなど）ゴールを囲む白い線」や「（クリケット）投手や打者の定位置線」，動詞「折り目を付ける」や「（射撃で）かすり傷を負わす」などの意味があります（『ジーニアス英和辞典』大修館書店）。ホッケーをやっていながらも，ゴールを囲む白い線のことを“crease”と言うことを知りませんでした。
