今回取り上げる単語は、clavicle /klˈævɪkl/です。Oxford Dictionary of English (Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)には、 “technical term for collarbone”と載っておりました。そこでcollarboneを引いてみたところ、 “either of the pair of bones joining the breastbone to shoulder blades”と書かれておりました。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）で調べたところ、「（医）鎖骨」と定義されておりました。ちなみにcollarboneは「（解剖）鎖骨」とのことでした。
取り上げた単語とは関係ないのですが、記事内で骨が折れたときの様子を “pop”と表しておりました。日本語で言うと「ポキッ」のような意味合いなのかなと考えました。こういうpopの使い方もあるのだなと、勉強になりました。（Gomez）
