『リーダーズ英和中辞典』(研究社)で調べると, 「受注残」, また「たくわえ」とありました。 “backlog” はもともと「炉の奥に入れておく大薪」を指し, 「(まさかの時に)たよりとなるもの」を表すそうです。
The Free Dictionary.com で確認したところ, “a reserve supply or source” と定義されていました。
