Inside Europe's first underwater museum, where climate change cannot be ignored
One of Europe’s most hotly anticipated art museums to date is now complete and open for public viewing – but visitors will need to bring a snorkel.
The Museo Atlantico (Atlantic Museum), located in the Canary Islands off the coast of Lanzarote, features more than 300 human sculptures created by British eco-artist Jason deCaires Taylor.

The largest piece, ‘Crossing The Rubicon’, is made up of a group of 40 people walking blindly towards a gateway in a 30-metre long barrier.
１つの作品としてあげられている“Crossing The Rubicon”について調べてみると、カエサルがThe die is cast. と言って ルビコン川を渡ったことでも知られている言葉で『ジーニアス英和辞典』によると「決定的な一歩を踏み出す，重大な決意をする」とありました。LDOCEでは“to do something that will have extremely important effects in the future and that you cannot change”と定義があり、「変更できない、後には引けない」というニュアンスがあることがわかりました。
35人の彫刻で作られた人々が海底を行進する作品で、実際に見るとはまた感じられるものも違うと思いますが、記事の写真からでも何か意味深いものを感じました。(lua)
