すでに取り上げられていますが，“Hollywood”の看板に何者かがいたずらをしました。
‘Hollyweed’ — Prankster alters L.A.’s landmark sign
The iconic hillside sign overlooking Southern California’s film-and-television hub was defaced overnight in honor of marijuana.
Residents awoke on Sunday to find “Hollyweed” staring down at them in four-story, white letters from Los Angeles’ Mt. Lee, where a version of the picture-ready “Hollywood” sign was first erected in 1923.

今回気になったのはhubです。
LDOCEでは“the central and most important part of an area, system, activity etc, which all the other parts are connected to syn centre”と定義されています。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）では「中心、中枢」の他にも、「（車輪の）ハブ」や「（コンピュータの）ハブ」とあり、カタカナでも使われていることが分かりました。
今回は“Southern California’s film-and-television hub”で「南カリフォルニアの映画界とテレビ界の中心地」となるかと思います。
また、同上英和辞書で“Hollywood”をひくと「ハリウッド（米国Los Angelsの北西部にある映画製作の中心地）」とあり、愛称は“Tinseltown”と記載されていました。
過去に先輩方が取り上げられているように“tinsel”は「ぴかぴか光る紙片」や「虚飾」を意味し、“Tinseltown”は「ハリウッドが暗示する華麗なる虚飾の世界」表すそうです。(flyingbird)
