Imports of champagne and other sparkling wine are increasing, boosted by their popularity as a pleasant drink mainly among women and young people. The market’s expansion has also been spurred by the growing number of varieties available, including carbonated Japanese sake.
Competition over sparkling alcoholic beverages is therefore intensifying in the year-end and New Year holiday period, industry sources said.
Imports of sparkling wine reached 34,000 kiloliters in 2015, more than twice that in 2005. A typical example of sparkling wine is champagne, which is produced in France’s Champagne region, with some people buying it in bulk before Christmas and other occasions.

大量といっても、記事で取り上げられているのは、3本セットのシャンパンが約45000円で比較的高級なものを購入する例も見られました。シャンパンが人気になってきたということで普段から飲んでいる人々は特別に高いものを選び、またまとめて買った方が安い場合もあるために多く買われているのかと思いました。それだけではなく輸入品が増加して、1本1000円以下で売られているものもあり、安いものを多く購入する人も多いのではないかと思いました。(lua)
